Pick 3 FAQs
LA Pick 3 is simple to play, but there may be some aspects of the game that you want to familiarize yourself with. Find out the answers to some of the most frequently asked questions right here.
When do draws take place?
Draws are held every night, apart from Christmas Day and Easter Sunday. Draw time is 9:59 p.m.
What time do ticket sales close?
You can buy tickets until 9:30 p.m. on the day of a drawing.
How do I play?
Start by picking three digits between 0 and 9. You can then choose your play type and your wager amount from the options available.
What are the different play types?
You can play a Straight, Box, Straight/Box or Combo. A Straight requires you to match all the numbers in exact order, while a Box can be any order. A Straight/Box splits your wager in half between both play types. If you buy a Combo ticket, it gives you separate Straight plays for each combination of your chosen digits. Learn more at the How to Play page.
What are 3-Way and 6-Way plays?
A 3-Way wager is any combination of numbers that includes two identical digits out of three, while a 6-Way play contains three unique numbers. The prize you can win depends on the combination of numbers you pick for Box and Straight/Box wagers.
How much can I wager?
The default amount on a playslip is $1 per wager, but you also have the option to play for just $0.50, or spend $5 if you want to try and increase your winnings.
What prizes can I win?
There are fixed prizes for every play type. The most you can win for a $1 wager is $500 on a Straight play, so if you decided to wager $5 it would be possible to win $2,500. Go to the How to Win page to find out about all the prizes that are available for the different play types.
Do I win if I match two numbers out of three?
No, you have to match all three numbers, regardless of your play type.
What is the minimum age to play?
You must be at least 21 to buy lottery tickets in Louisiana.
Why can I sometimes not play the numbers I want to?
As the prize amounts are fixed, the Louisiana Lottery sometimes has to impose a sales limit on certain popular number combinations. If this did not happen and that particular number was drawn as the winner, the lottery would not have the funds to pay everyone.
How do I claim prizes?
You can claim Pick 3 prizes of any value by mailing your winning ticket to the Louisiana Lottery Corporation, Attn: Prize Validations, P.O. Box 90010, Baton Rouge, LA 70879-0010. The majority of prizes (up to $600) can also be claimed from retailers, while anything larger can be collected from a lottery office.
How long do I have to claim my prize?
You have 180 days from the date of a drawing to claim any Pick 3 prizes you win.
Can I play if I don’t live in Louisiana?
Yes, you can buy a ticket if you are visiting the Pelican State, provided you are at least 21 years old, even if the age limit is lower where you live. You should also be aware that any prizes won in Louisiana must also be claimed in the state.
